Enhancing Signal Integration and Control: Introducing Avenue to Our TBC1 HD Upgrade Project

In our ongoing TBC 1 HD upgrade project, we have encountered the need for a reliable and efficient solution to synchronize and integrate signals using both fiber and coaxial cables. After careful consideration, we are excited to announce the inclusion of Avenue in our system. This comprehensive tray-based signal integration system offers a multitude of features, making it the perfect fit for our project’s requirements. Here are the key aspects and advantages of Avenue, as well as its specific modules that we have incorporated into our setup.

Seamless Integration with Avenue:
Avenue provides a complete and simple solution for facilities seeking seamless integration of various signal types. It supports 1.5 Gb/s HD, 3 Gb/s HD, SD, MPEG, analog video, and audio processing modules, all within a single frame. With its hot-swappable modules, we can easily replace and upgrade components without disrupting the system. Furthermore, Avenue’s universal backplane eliminates the need for special rear connectors, simplifying the installation process.

Streamlined Control and Monitoring:
Efficient control and monitoring are essential for any signal integration system. Avenue excels in this aspect by offering built-in networking capabilities that enable us to tie the entire Avenue system together. This streamlines control and monitoring processes and allows us to access frames and modules from multiple locations within our facility or even remotely via the Internet. Comprehensive management and control are achieved through a combination of Avenue Control Panels and/or Avenue PC software, providing us with a user-friendly interface to oversee the system’s operations. Additionally, front-edge/local controls are available for each module, ensuring convenient access and control options.

Optimized Integration with Avenue 3RU Frame:
For our specific requirements, we opted for the Avenue 3RU frame, a full-featured chassis that perfectly accommodates our chosen configuration. This frame supports up to ten Avenue modules and includes a dedicated slot for the optional 5030 System Control module. Designed to fit seamlessly into a standard 19-inch rack, multiple frames can be stacked together in any combination, offering scalability and flexibility. The Avenue 3RU frame’s front accessibility to critical components, such as fuses, filters, and fans, simplifies maintenance tasks and minimizes downtime.

Precise Timing and Test Pattern Generation:
To ensure precise timing synchronization and video test pattern generation, we integrated the Avenue 9400 module into our setup. The Avenue 9400 module serves as a stable timing source, making it an ideal choice for local reference generation in broadcast applications. It generates a wide range of outputs, including 3 Gb/s HD SDI, SD SDI, analog composite, tri-level sync, time code, AES audio, and analog audio references. Compatible with both the Avenue 3RU and 1RU frames, this module offers versatility and compatibility across various formats.

Reliable Redundancy with 9465 3G Sync Changeover Module:
To ensure uninterrupted operations, we have implemented redundancy in our system. Alongside the Avenue 9400 module, we have incorporated the 9465 3G Sync Changeover module. This module acts as a failsafe mechanism, automatically switching to the secondary sync source in the event of a primary sync failure. With its three poles, the 9465 module effectively tests for signals such as 3 Gb/s or 1.5 Gb/s HD SDI, SD SDI, ASI, SMPTE 310M, AES audio, composite video, bi-level sync, and tri-level sync. A drop in signal amplitude below a predetermined threshold triggers the seamless switch to the secondary source, ensuring uninterrupted signal flow.

Analog Distribution and Remote Control:
For analog distribution of composite video signals, PAL or NTSC, AES audio, and tri-level sync, we have incorporated the 5150 module. This module offers one composite video input and nine buffered composite video outputs, enabling efficient signal distribution. Input signal detection is displayed locally and through the Avenue remote control system. Gain adjustment can be done locally or remotely, providing flexibility and ease of use. With Avenue’s control panel and PC control application, we have convenient access to remotely control the module and manage its settings.

Charles, the Technical Manager at Britt Broadcast, expresses his satisfaction with the integration of Avenue into their TBC1 HD upgrade project. He emphasizes that Avenue has greatly improved its signal integration capabilities, thanks to its versatile modules, streamlined control and monitoring features, and reliable redundancy options. Charles considers Avenue to be an invaluable asset for their facility. He expresses enthusiasm about leveraging the advanced functionalities of Avenue to deliver high-quality and synchronized signals within their facility.
